Emma Shipp Obituary

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Emma T. Shipp, departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, peacefully surrounded by her family at Heritage Hall, where she had been a resident for many years.

She was born Jan. 22, 1909, to the late John Ivanhoe and Ada Rigsby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Shipp; two brothers, Robert and Roy Rigsby; four sisters, Olie Gillispie, Nelie Bourne, Effie Burns and Elsie Rigsby; one daughter, Audrey Rainey; and one great-grandson, Greg Pace Jr.

She is survived by her children, Lucille Pace and her husband, Horace, of Troy, Ray Shipp and his wife, Frances, of Crozet, Elden Bourne of Troy, Alver Scruggs and her husband, Bill, of Fla. and Lewis Shipp and his wife, Shirley, of Troy.

Grandma loved all her grandchildren, but some were very special to her whom she help raise, Greg Pace of Troy, Kim Ashley of Faber, Janet Kirby of Charlottesville and their spouses, Peggy Grubbs, Steve Ashley and Cecil Kirby; and a special great-granddaughter, Kayla Pace.

She is survived by a number of grandchildren and their families, Bob and Brenda Scruggs of Fla., Steve and Vickie Scruggs of Md., Glen Scruggs of Md., Jeffrey Shipp, Jamie Shipp and Jeannie Lawhorne of Troy, Tina Chapman, Kincaide Baber of Charlottesville, Frankie Bourne of Palmyra and David Bourne of Troy.

She has eight great-grandchildren, Amber and Bryan Ashley, both of Faber, Doug Sprouse of Charlottesville, Billy Scruggs of Fla., Kayla Pace of Troy and Destiny, Faith and Christian Bourne, all of Palmyra; and two great-grandchildren, Kristina and C.W. Sprouse of Charlottesville.

Active pall bearers will be her grandchildren, Greg Pace, David Bourne, Doug Sprouse, Bob Scruggs, Steve Scruggs, Glen Scruggs.

Honorary pall bearers will be her grandchildren, Frankie Bourne, Kincaid Baber, Jeffrey and Jamie Shipp.

The family would like to thank Dr. Samuel Caughron, Hospice of the Piedmont, the 6th floor nursing staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital and all the wonderful staff at Heritage Hall that loved and cared for our mother for many years.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Riggs from Zion Union Methodist Church officiating and Marie Clowater from Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

I cared for Emma at Heritage Hall a couple of years ago and I have to say she was truly special. She was such a sweet lady and I know she is going to be greatly missed. My prayers are with all her family and friends.

I didnt know Mrs Shipp But Im her Gransons Girlfriend Jamie Shipp. I know she will missed by many but she is home with the lord to take care of her now.She is home.
