Edna Haley Farry, 93, of Wolftown, Va. passed away on May 3, 2016, at her Excalibur Farms home. She was born on October 15, 1922, in Vicksburg, Miss. to the late Brown Olonzo Haley and Ann MacLemore Haley, and grew up in Lake Providence, La. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Barrett Farry, Sr., and a baby sister.She is survived by her daughter, Kristin Ann Farry; two sons, Albert Barrett Farry, Jr., and Jeffrey Justin Farry; grandchildren, Joshua Edward Farry, Justin Michael Farry, and Jason Christopher Farry.Edna was a 1944 graduate of Stanford University. She was in Stanford's first physical therapy class. She was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army in 1944 and was deployed with the mobile medical hospitals in the Normandy Invasion in World War II. Edna was in combat at times and injured in the Battle of the Bulge. After World War II, she practiced physical therapy at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where her patients included General Eisenhower and other military leaders. She achieved the rank of Captain, U.S. Air Force.Edna and husband, Albert B. Farry, Sr. founded Excalibur Farms in 1965 in Madison, Va. and became prominent in the sheep industry. From 1971until 1987, Edna led the physical therapy clinic at Culpeper Memorial Hospital. She also was a Scout leader, 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, and school volunteer in Madison.A memorial service and family visitation will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Rose Park United Methodist Church, 318 Shelby Road, Wolftown, VA 22748, with the Rev. Betsy Caudill officiating. A graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery will be at a later date.Instead of flowers, her family suggests donations be made to the Madison County Rescue Squad, Inc., ATTN: Treasurer, P.O. Box868, Madison, VA 22727,or to a plaque in Edna's memory at the Women in Military Service Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery (checks payable to Women's Memorial) and send to K. Farry, P.O. Box 207, Patuxent River, MD 20670.
