George Pineo Obituary

George L. Pineo, 91, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, surrounded by love. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

George was born on August 6, 1934, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Vernon V. Pineo and Lillian I. Granigan. At age five, he moved with his family to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he attended the International American School and developed a lifelong love of sports, playing rugby during his school years. These early experiences helped shape his adventurous and team-oriented spirit.

George was a proud graduate of Tufts University and later completed graduate studies at Harvard University, achievements that fostered his intellectual curiosity and lifelong passion for global engagement.

Throughout his distinguished career in international business, George worked with the Gillette Company and later served as President of International Sales for American Safety Razor. His work brought him to nearly every corner of the world, where he approached each culture with genuine curiosity, deep respect, and an exceptional ability to form meaningful connections.

Among his international experiences, George developed a special affection for Chile and its traditions. Embraced by the Chilean rodeo community, he became affectionately known as "El Huaso Gringo." In March 2016, he was named Honorary Director of the Chilean Rodeo Federation and established the Gillette Sports Horsemanship Award, leaving a lasting legacy in the Chilean equestrian world.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Balbontin Pineo; his first wife, Patricia; and his four loving children - Michael, Mark, Anne, and Bob and their spouses, along with nine cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by Ruth's children - Cristian, Catia, and Macarena and their spouses, along with her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Ruth's son, Perry, in 2011. Each of them brought him immense pride and joy.

He will be remembered for his generosity, his love of travel, and his ability to make every person feel seen and valued. His laughter, stories, and kindness will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

The family will hold a private funeral at a later date.

Forever in our hearts, remembered with love.

I was George“s Office Manager and Assistant for 4 years at Alpha Marketing Associates located in the Prudential Center in Boston. George spoke fluent Spanish, was personable, hard-working, and had a great sense of humor. He was kind, generous and devoted to his family and children. My most sincere and deepest condolences.
