Jerry Garrison Obituary

Jerry Martin Garrison, 75, of Charlottesville, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his home.

Jerry, native to Virginia, was born on August 8, 1947, to the late John Bryant Garrison and Meta Stewart Garrison.

Jerry had many interests including spending much of his free time at estate sales and antique shops looking for bargains. He was quite deft at fixing things with his specialty being antique clocks. He was employed by many of his friends to repair old clocks and have them running like new. Jerry had an encyclopedic knowledge of local history and lore and visited Monticello often.

Jerry easily made friends. After a first meeting with a total stranger, he could tell you who they were, who their family was, and what they did. He was beloved by his family, his neighbors, his friends, and his co-workers. He enjoyed greeting Halloween trick-or-treaters wearing a Tuxedo, always dressing properly for whatever occasion.

Jerry retired from the Virginia Transportation Research Council after more than forty years of service to the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was responsible for printing, binding, and sending hundreds of research reports to transportation professionals around the world.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Berger and Ruby Carpenter; her son, Bryant Carpenter; and his brother, James Garrison.

Jerry is survived by his brother, Henry Garrison, and his nieces and nephews, Cindy McNair, Brenda Bosserman (Russell), Scheffel Carpenter (Jani), Danny Carpenter (Gloria), Peter Carpenter (Lisa), Vickie Garrison, Debra Hurst, Sandra Cobb (Luke), and Henry Garrison Jr. (Kim).

The family welcomes all to join them in a graveside service to celebrate Jerry's life at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's honor to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
