Ruby Harris Kelso, 87, of Charlottesville, Virginia passed away peacefully Thursday, September 21, 2017, in Albemarle County. She was born on March 13, 1930, in Albemarle County, Virginia to the late Edgar L. Harris and Daisy (Harlow) Harris. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Norman S. Kelso; and all of her siblings, Doris H. Pace, Lewis E. Harris, Robert A. Harris, and an infant brother. Until her illness, Ruby was a faithful member of First Christian Church. She was a homemaker most of her life and was known for her delicious rum cakes and fudge that she shared with family and friends. She had fond memories of working intermittently with friends at Wayside Press. Ruby was devoted to her parents and family, and she spent many hours visiting and caring for them. Though Ruby and Norman had no children of their own, they enjoyed showering their niece and nephews with lots of love. Christmas mornings with the youngsters were special to them. She is survived by a devoted niece, Cynthia H. Burton and husband, Michael; and beloved nephews, Byron L. Harris, Dennis V. Pace, and Robert A. Harris and wife Linda; three great-nephews, two great-nieces, a great-great-nephew, two great-great-nieces, cousins; and a step-nephew, James Pace and wife, Sherron. The family wishes to thank her compassionate caregivers at Rosewood Village- Greenbrier where she resided for her last years. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017, in the Hill and Wood Chapel. Her family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
