Kevin Collins Obituary

Kevin Patrick Collins, 55, of Troy, Virginia passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 19, 2023, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Following his diagnosis only three weeks prior, he battled to reach his final goal of surviving until his birthday, and he did. While we could only briefly celebrate his birthday here, it is our family's hope that he was celebrating a joyful heavenly birthday. He often said that the price of love was grief, and he was overwhelmingly right. He lived life just as he passed: on his own terms. His family, and most importantly his mother, were the center of his world and everyone who knew him knew that. Additionally, his rescue cat Coco was the light of his life. They had such a special bond, and he unconditionally loved her with so much compassion and care.

Kevin, affectionately known to some as "Freddie," was passionate about his family, random facts, general knowledge, and his love of reading. His favorite authors were John Grisham and Stephen King, and he could sit and read a novel in an afternoon. He could also nearly recite it back word for word. He was wickedly smart and one of his favorite daily activities was challenging his mother in Jeopardy. He usually "won" but never rubbed it in… well maybe a little. He loved living life and enjoyed live concerts with friends and relatives. One of his most fervent pastimes was motorcycling. He cherished the wind on his face and the rush and excitement of the ride. His other interests included skydiving, riding roller coasters and anything thrill seeking. Shortly before he passed, he purchased his treasured Camaro and enjoyed every ride he was able to take.

Born August 19, 1968, Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth K. Collins and his beloved niece, Cheyanne N. Collins. He is survived by his adoring mother and best friend, Michaele H. Collins; his brother, Keith J. Collins and his wife Olivia and children Dalton and Ashley; his sister, Amy Morris and her husband, James ("Matt") and children Savannah and Braddock; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends.

Kevin did not want a service, so his family honors his wishes and will have a private family ceremony at a later date.

Special thanks to Heartland Hospice and especially his nurse, Rachel Richard, who was like an Angel sent from God. We are also incredibly grateful to all Heartland Hospice staff as well as the countless friends who helped in the last several weeks.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
