Laura Ann Hansberry

Ms. Laura Ann Hansberry, 96, of Charlottesville, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while at Charlottesville Health and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, April 18, 2010.

She was born March 24, 1914, in Rockfish, Virginia, in Nelson County, to the late Richard L. and Laura Vest Hansberry.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Daniel Hansberry; two brothers, Johnny and Charles Hansberry; three sisters, Rosie May, Lucy Hansberry, and Carrie Frances Jordan; one great-great-grandson, Daquayzion Hansberry; and two nephews, Cecil James Hansberry and Leroy Hester.

Laura was a faithful member of First Baptist Church until she became ill and could no longer attend services. She was a devoted choir member and missionary worker. She worked as a housekeeper for the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fisher for many, many years.

She leaves to cherish her memories three devoted grandchildren, Delores Rankins, Loretta Hansberry, and William Emerson Sr., all of Charlottesville, Virginia; seven great-grandchildren, James, Deniesha and her husband, George, Paris and her husband, Ricky, William II, and Priayer and Cierra; a devoted great-granddaughter, Monica; four great-great- grandchildren, Kasai, Kamahya, Jasmin and Ryan; one niece, Phyllis Hester; one nephew, Bobby Hester; one Godson, Gerald Fisher and his wife, Carol; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at First Baptist Church, 632 West Main Street, with the Reverend Paul Johnson officiating and the Reverend John Spears delivering the Eulogy. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family extends a special thank you to Charlottesville Health and Rehabilitation Center staff, Dr. Samuel Caughron, the Hospice of the Peidmont and the University of Virginia Medical Center 8th Floor West staff. A very special thanks to Ms. Ruth Howard and Ms. Lucy Chambers of Mountainside Assistant Living and staff, and Mrs. Lucille, Delores and Anthony Rush.

To the Family of the late Laura Hansberry, a life well lived, 96 yrs says it all. the Angels took her hand and guided her to her Heavenly home. the Lord said well done, my Child come live in peace forever. Delores and Loretta you were there always, know that God has a special blessing for both of you for your love and support. i am praying for Family and i know that God will provide peace and love to the Family forever...
