Laurie Monroe Obituary

Laurie Monroe, beloved by all, passed gently from the physical in her sleep early on the morning of Monday, December 18, 2006.

A native of New York City, Laurie was born in 1951, and was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Monroe. Throughout her childhood, Laurie witnessed her father's consciousness-expanding experiences as a part of her everyday life. She was one of the early subjects of Mr. Monroe's "sleep learning" research.

After attending the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond, Laurie began a 21-year career in real estate. In the fall of 1994, Laurie was elected as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Monroe Institute and Monroe Products. She relocated to Virginia in 1996, and has done much to uphold and expand her father's work. Under her leadership the Institute has greatly expanded its efforts in education, research, and the promotion of Hemi-Sync® as a tool for expanding human consciousness and enhancing human potential.

Laurie was very active in the community, where she served on the board of the local Humane Society/SPCA. Her love for the animals and concern for their well being was unparalleled.

She is survived by her sister, Maria Monroe Whitehead of Deltaville, Virginia, and her beloved canine companion, Focus.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Human Society/SPCA of Nelson County, 29 Stagebridge Road, Lovingston, VA 22949.

Laurie and I became friends growing up in Richmond, and attending school together. I recall many fond memories of being with Laurie, Maria, and her mother and father. Laurie was a fun friend and I'm so glad for our visit last year. I will miss you! With heartfelt love...

To my beloved friend I will miss you beyond words.Although our friendship,in terms of years was short,it was profound and one of the most meaningful of my lifetime. It was filled with love, compassion, learning and fun!!!

One of your beliefs that will stay with me forever was to, "Live life with integrity", and that you certainly did.
