Lawrence Cassada Obituary

Lawrence Edward Cassada

July 1, 1929 - July 1, 2024

Lawrence Edward Cassada came into the world on July 1, 1929 and went out on July 1, 2024.

He was the son of the late James Scott Cassada and Eva Preston Ingram Cassada. He grew up in South Boston, Virginia, along with his brothers, James, Doug, Harold and Leonard who also preceded him in death.

Lawrence survived his first wife and mother of his children, Eleanor Durden Cassada; surviving are their children, Katherine Cassada Groves (Joe Jennelle) and Lawrence Edward Cassada, Jr. (Monica).

His second wife, Alice Sterrett Cassada, preceded him in death but left sons, Drew, Bruce, and Matt, with whom he shares such a great love of Alice.

Lawrence is also survived by grandchildren, Wendy Gay and Jody Gay Wyatt (Travis); great-grandchildren, Mason and Riley Wyatt; and a special step-granddaughter, Ree Sterrett. Also living to cherish his memory are his many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Lawrence graduated from VPI in 1951 in Dairy Science and was a member of the Corp of Cadets. Part of his duties were fulfilled at Warner Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia. He returned to Virginia Tech in 1956 to manage the VT Dairy and Food Science Department. He left that job to manage the ice cream division of Monticello Dairy in Charlottesville, VA. When that closed, he became a sanitarian for the State of Virginia Health Department.

He was a true "southern" gentleman who loved his books and newspapers. His stories will live on in his many family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Graveside services will take place at a later date in the Cassada Family Plot at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Augusta Health Foundation, c/o Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.

Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.coffmanfuneralhome.net.
