George J. Lechner, 84, of Lake Monticello, Va. passed away on February 13, 2016. He was born December 9, 1931, in Jersey City, N.J., and raised in Rahway, N.J., the son of the late George W. Lechner and Lillian Lechner. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Lillian Chain, Arlene Tavormina, and Hazel Cohen, and brother, Charles Hayden.George was a professional truck driver by trade for over 40 years with Local 469. He was the Recipient of the Purple Heart commendation during the Korean War, where he served with the 7th Calvary regiment. He was a true gentleman who treasured spending time with his family. A devoted Husband, loving Father and doting Grandfather. His work ethic, kindness, and love of the sea along with his golf game have been passed down through the generations. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Lake Monticello where he worked in the maintenance department for over 17 years.He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janet; his devoted son, George C. Lechner and his wife, Debbie; his treasured grandchildren, George W/Leann, and Kaitlin/Sean; his loving daughter, Susan and her husband, Tim Webster, all of Holmdel N.J., along with several nieces and nephews.A funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 19, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4309 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Palmyra, VA 22963, reception to follow.
