Mabel Brown Obituary

Mabel H. Brown

August 5, 1932 - April 14, 2021

Mabel H. Brown, 88, of Charlottesville, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Martha Jefferson Hospital after an 11-year battle with kidney disease.

Mabel was born on August 5, 1932, in North Garden, Va., to Thomas P. and Agnes Clements Hudson. Mabel graduated from Red Hill School when it housed all grades for the students of the area. She worked for the Michie Company, Charlottesville City Schools, and Piedmont Regional Education Program until she retired. She was a member of Hinton Avenue Church all her adult life. She was a hard worker who never sat still, earning her the nickname "Energizer Bunny" from her family. Everyone that met Mabel would always comment on how sweet she was and how she served others with such joy.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Thomas Hudson; her brothers, Sam and Early Hudson; and her sisters, Ruby Amiss, Judy Moses and Emma Young.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Harvey R. Brown of Charlottesville; their daughter, Lois Burke and granddaughter, Kayti Burke. Also surviving her are her sisters, Esther Wood (Leroy) of North Garden, Va., and Patsy NeSmith of Snellville, Ga.; and 10 nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her sister Ruby's children, James Amiss (Mary), Kenneth Amiss (Anna) and Margie Brown (Mike). She loved and adored her many great-nieces and nephews and considered them bonus grandchildren. She is missed by many friends, both in her church family and in the community.

The family would like to thank the staff of DaVita North and Pantops and, in particular, Karen Read, for their care over the last 11 years.

Family visitation and viewing will be held at Hill and Wood Funeral Home from 4 until 6 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2021. A graveside service will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 10 a.m.

I continue to think of Mr. and Mrs. Brown and what wonderful people they were. I still have Mrs. Brown's picture on the desk in the room where I sit and
have pleasant thoughts when I look at the picture which is daily.

I keep a picture of Mrs. Brown at the desk that I use at the dialysis clinic and think of the Brown family often.
She is in a good place, probably smiling at you. You will see her again. You should feel good about the wonderful care that you gave her.

In memory and honor of a wonderful sister, valedictorian of her class, good listener and advocate, superlative worker at every task handed her, beloved by family and friends, made delicious meals, made the best lemon jello pound cake in Charlottesville which she cooked for many fundraisers for church and school causes. She will long be remembered by all who knew her and her pleasant smile.
In loving memory & to remember her special family Harvey, Lois, Kayti, her nieces and nephews, as well as their sweet children.

So proud for your safe arrival home, Virtuous Woman.
