Dear Ann-Rodes and Clayton,
I received your Christmas card today and was so sorry to hear about the news of Mark's death. I felt so connected to you all through Ann and Paul, and think of you often as I go through old photos or pass by a piece of furniture that belonged to Ann and Paul. I am sorry that you must bear this deep grief, and you are right, as you said in your card, the comfort of family and friends, and the blessing of memories, give strength for the journey ahead. And while faith may be broken and shattered in our darkest hour, what forms out of the brokeness may become our biggest strength and gift. Prayers for you, and love to you, Susan and Chris

Mark was someone who could make me laugh and someone I could make laugh back in highschool and that was priceless. I hadn't seen him since then but this hurts. I'd only recently moved back to Virginia and I think I was looking forward to seeing old friends again.
Looking back, when I was new at our small highschool, he often said and did little things to make me feel included and a part of the close knit community, and it meant a lot to me. Despite always having lived in the same place and having always gone to the same school he understood how difficult it could be to be new and I think he must have learned this growing up there and done it for many. He was a sensitive and soft spoken person and everyone admired everything he had to say in English class. The world will miss his joie de vivre. My heart goes out to his family and especially the "sandbox" gang from school who grew up with him; love to you all.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Savage,
I was very sad to learn of Mark's passing. I worked with Mark at State Farm and we were on the same team this past year. I got to know Mark a little more, and I found him be quiet, cheerful and very witty! He will be Greatly Missed! My Deepest Sympathy's during this difficult time.

Mark was one of a kind, and the world is a less colorful place without him. He always knew how to make me laugh at any situation. I'll always remember him in that grungy Burma Shave Hat and his white Chuck Taylors. While my heartaches, I am filled with Joy from all the memories of our times together. Safe home my friend.
