Murrell Bourne Obituary

Murrell Carlton Bourne

August 9, 1939 - August 1, 2024

Murrell Carlton Bourne, 84, of Charlottesville passed away on August 1, 2024.

He was born on August 9, 1939 to the late Carlton Emmett Bourne and Verna Harrison Bourne whom he loved dearly.

A lifelong resident of Charlottesville, he was a graduate of Lane High School, class of 1957. He worked for State Farm Insurance for 41 years before retiring as an Underwriter. He played the Organ for countless weddings, funerals and church services throughout the Charlottesville area but in particular was fond of his many years as the Church organist at Mount View Baptist.

He loved travel, especially in his younger years, music, Judge Judy, and most of all, his family.

He is survived by his cousins Jimmy Leap, Willson Harrison, Becky Tunstall, Bill Harrison, Carol Marie Taylor, Avis Smith, Margaret Kirby, Judy Miller, and Steve Dorrier and his devoted friend James "Jim" Harlow, along with many other extended family and other friends.

A Celebration of Murrell's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on his 85th birthday, Friday August 9, 2024, at Belmont Baptist Church. There will be a time of visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. The Reverends Davind Hollingshead and Greg Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery where Murrell will be laid to rest next to his parents.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mount View Baptist Church, Belmont Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.

Sorry to hear about Murrells passing. He played the Oregon or piano for many many solos that I sang for and was the organist at the church that I grew up in from the time he was around 14. I think his illness and my illnesses were happening around the same time. We lost touch during that time and I feel regretful about that but we were sick and didn´t know about the One. He loved His music and laughing at a good joke. We had many good times together and hope to share many more in heaven, as I will be there with him in the near future. Until then, Byron

I extend sympathy and condolences to the family. I remember Murrell well where my husband, Harry, was a committed and faithful member of the choir at Mount View.
