Nancy Arnette Obituary

Nancy N. Arnette, 81, of Charlottesville, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, September 29, 2007.

Born January 14, 1926, in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Elias Rueben Newman and Mary Garnett Jones Newman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert K. Arnette; and one sister, Jean Newman Waters.

Nancy graduated from Lane High School and attended Mary Washington College. She was employed by the Charlottesville Public Schools for many years managing various school cafeterias including Venable, Buford, and Charlottesville High School, from where she retired. Nancy won numerous Virginia State Fair awards for her jams, jellies and candies which she generously shared with her many friends. A lifelong avid fisherman, Nancy also enjoyed her frequent and successful gem hunting excursions to North Carolina.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda "Lin" A. Arnette, of Charlottesville; a son, Michael "Mike" K. Arnette and his wife, Linda M. Arnette, and her granddaughter, Jennifer L. Arnette, all of Goochland, Virginia; and her beloved pets, Smokey (Bud, Bud) and Rusty.

She is also survived by her brother-in law, Jay Waters and sons, Jack F. Waters and James C. Waters; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the following people, Dr. William Hammond, Mary, Cindy and Page; Dr. Thomas Schildwachter, Karen and Sue; Dr. Michael Goldman; Ricky with Robert's Oxygen; and neighbors, Greg, Joyce and aunt Fran, Harvey and Bea, Randall and Dorothy, Lucy, Dorothy, Tommy and Kathy. A grateful thank you to Susan Yesawick, Mom's Hospice volunteer.

The family would especially like to thank special friends, Sharon and Ralph Ross, for their love, support and always being there over the many years.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Myra, Rosemary, Marian and David as well as the staff at Martha Jefferson House and Infirmary for their love, support, and care during this time.

A memorial service celebrating Nancy's life will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at Christ Episcopal Church, 100 Jefferson Street West.

To Lin: I remember your mom when my mom worked with her at CHS. It was my first year of High School and they referred to her as SARGE. She ran a tight ship, but her "girls" knew what she expected from them and she had their respect no matter what. Please take comfort in knowing she is a better place and you and your family are in our thoughts.
