Paul Wharton Obituary

Paul Wayne Wharton, Sr., 61, husband of Betsy Kin-law Wharton, of 906 L. Lakecrest Ave, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at his residence, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Wharton was born in Charlottesville, Va., on April 28, 1944, a son of the late William D. Wharton and Elizabeth Iva Esteppe Wharton.

He was educated at Lane High School and at the Miller School of Albemarle, both in Charlottesville, Va. Mr. Wharton served in the United States Air Force.

He worked at U.S. Furniture Industries for over 20 years, was a long distance driver for a short time, and worked for Smith & Shore as manager at the BP Express in Archdale, N.C. He was an avid golfer and loved horses.

A brother, Charles Leroy Brittain preceded Mr. Wharton in death.

On June 28, 1996, he married Betsy Kin-law whom survives of the home.

Also surviving are his children Paul Wayne Wharton, II and wife Emily of Thomasville, N.C.; Nikki W. Allen of Archdale, N.C.; grandchildren Rebekah Elizabeth Wharton and Gregory Paul Wharton of Thomasville, NC; step children C. Scott Yancey and his wife, Mary Beth and Brian K. Yancey and his wife, Merea, both of Charlottesville, Va.; step grandchildren; Christopher Scott Yancey, Gabriel Thomas Yancey, Samantha Grace Yancey, and Jacob Charles Yancey, of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Jean W. Hall of Charlottesville, Va. and Melva W. Farish of Earlysville, Va., brothers, William D. Wharton, Jr. and his, wife Susie, and John Wyle Wharton and his wife, Peggy, both of Charlottesville, Va.; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Brittan of Falls Church, Va; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and dog, "Little Jake".

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Westchester Baptist Church by the Rev. Eric Peacock. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at Sechrest Funeral Service on East Lexington Ave.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials should be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Betsy-so sorry to hear about Paul. Please know you are in the hearts and prayers of many at this sad time.

I was sorry to learn of Paul's passing. You have my deepest sympathy. Paul was one of our old skating group from the early 60's at the Armory. He was always smiling and willing to help a struggling skater.

I am sorry to here of Paul's death, we go back along time. I lived behind his house growing up on Hinton Ave. and Paul lived on Belmont Ave.

Please give my regards to family and he will be missed.
