Peter Amedeo Del Priore, of Afton, Va., died Wednesday, August 27, at UVA hospital following a brief illness. His two children, Gina Del Priore Sutton, and James Del Priore, were at his bedside, as was his former wife, Dale Steinemann Del Priore.

A celebration of life will be held at Hill and Wood Funeral Services, 201 North 1st Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, on October 19, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Peter was born on October 19, 1946, to Francis and Elsie Del Priore. He grew up in Norfolk, Va., where he spent his time fishing, boating, crabbing, and swimming. These were activities he continued to enjoy throughout his life. He graduated from Granby High School in 1964, and East Carolina University in 1968. Around 1980 Peter moved to Charlottesville, where he worked as a rehabilitation counselor at the Virginia Department for the Visually Handicapped (now, Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired). For over 40 years he assisted blind and visually impaired adults in getting education, training, and finding employment in their communities. In 1981 Peter married Dale Steinemann, and they had two children, Gina and James. Peter was a devoted father, and some of his best years were spent coaching James' baseball teams and traveling with the whole family to All-Star games. After his retirement, Peter kept busy looking after his properties and pets in Afton, Va. He enjoyed traveling to Virginia Beach and staying on the oceanfront with friends. In 2024, he moved to The Blake, a residential facility in Charlottesville. He made many friends there, as he did everywhere. In addition to his two children and ex-wife, he is survived by his three grandchildren, Coen Del Priore (age 7), Frank (age 4) and Betsy Sutton (age 1). Rest in Peace, Peter. You will be sorely missed.
