Robert "Bob" Stewart McAdams Sr.

Robert "Bob" Stewart McAdams, Sr., 79, of Charlottesville, Va., died peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 24, 2026, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville.

Born March 25, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of John and Thelma McAdams. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John McAdams, Jr.; and former wife and mother of his children, Ruth Ann McAdams.

Bob was a life-long advocate for PEACE and JUSTICE for ALL. He was President of the Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice and an active member of Peace Lutheran Church and Vinegar Hill Toastmasters. He was also a member of IMPACT Charlottesville, Albemarle-Charlottesville NAACP, Albemarle Democrats, Indivisible Charlottesville, and the ACLU.

Bob is survived by his three children, Rob McAdams (Kelly) of Richmond, Heather Phillips (Tom) of Centreville, and James McAdams of Richmond; his four grandchildren, Milo McAdams, Tyler Phillips, Tanner Phillips, and Roary McAdams; his brothers Richard and David McAdams, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank his friends and neighbors for their kindness and help over the years. We would also like to recognize and send our sincerest thanks to the many teams of caring staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital including the Pulmonary Rehab group, his pulmonologists, the Palliative Care Team, Hospice of the Piedmont, and the many wonderful nurses and other caregivers (techs, dietary, housekeeping, nutrition, and PT) on Cornell 2 at MJH.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21st, at 11 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church in Charlottesville, VA.

As an alternative to flowers, a memorial contribution in Bob's name to any of the groups listed above would be a great honor to Bob's life of advocacy.
