Robert McGuire Obituary

Robert Melton McGuire

June 12, 1996 - May 19, 2025

Robert Melton McGuire, born in Alexandria Virginia on June 12, 1996, passed away on May 19, 2025 at the age of 28.

Robert grew up in Charlottesville, VA, where his love for music, and the natural world began to grow. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in history, he was inspired by his father's love for uncovering the connections between people, places, and time.

He found joy in downright complex hobbies such as tending to his collection of exotic plants, nurturing them with both patience and curiosity. Robert also had a particular fondness for live music. He was most at home in a crowd of kindred spirits, enjoying performances by his favorite bands Ween, Primus and Billy Strings. In recent years, he had begun teaching himself to play both the mandolin and guitar, driven by a love for music that was deeply personal and profoundly felt.

To those who knew him, Robert was more than a student and passionate hobbyist. He was both a hilarious and dependable friend with unwavering strength and an open heart. Whether it was offering a listening ear, or simply showing up when it mattered most, Robert was someone you could rely on.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melton McGuire. Robert is survived by his loving mother, Heather Schuyler; his stepfather, Sam Schuyler; his devoted sister, Georgia McGuire; his beloved stepsister, Phoebe Schuyler; his grandmother, Roberta (Bobbi) McGuire; his grandfather, Donald Miller; his aunt, Roberta Matthews; his cousins Chester and Ruth-Riley Collins along with a close circle of extended family and loving friends, all of whom will miss his genuine spirit, and outlandish jokes.

Though his time was short, Robert lived with authenticity and heart. His life was one of compassion, creativity, and connection. He touched others deeply and will not be forgotten.

In the words of the fan base "Primus sucks" and in the words of The Grateful Dead: "Fare you well, fare you well / I love you more than words can tell / Listen to the river sing sweet songs / To rock my soul."

In honor of Robert's dedication to community care and public health he volunteered to support vulnerable individuals along Colfax Avenue in Denver. His family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers you may consider making a donation to local harm reduction organizations. These contributions will continue Robert's legacy of compassion, dignity, and an unwavering belief in the power of support and second chances.
