Roy Shifflett Obituary

Roy Daniel Shifflett, 78, of Charlottesville, VA passed away on Friday, November 10th.

He was the son of the late Ellis Daniel and Annie Shifflett.

Roy's gift of storytelling and unforgettable sense of humor was shared in his smile and laughter at all family gatherings. Every spring through fall, he was a Shockwave Softball grandparent, always heard cheering for all the young players over the years. Roy was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed NFL Sundays, NASCAR racing, and was a dedicated UVA Cavaliers fan. It should not go unmentioned of his complete admiration of the TV series, Gunsmoke.

Roy worked in the Charlottesville area for a variety of distribution food services and vending suppliers until retirement. He made a lot of lasting friendships with colleagues after retirement working the local RMC Events.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Nancy Ann Shifflett, a son-in-law, Wayne Lawhorne; brothers Norman, James, Edward, and Mervin and sisters Irene and Mavis.

He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Lawhorne granddaughter, Elizabeth Lawhorne; sisters: Stella, Mary and Joyce and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews.

Family night will be held at Teague Funeral Home on November 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be November 18th at Free Union Church of the Brethren at 12 p.m., with Graveside following the service at Holly Memorial Gardens.|Roy Daniel Shifflett, 78, of Charlottesville, VA passed away on Friday, November 10th.

Roy was a blessing to work with over the past 16+ years at RMC. His passion, dedication, and his smile no matter the situation was contagious. He'll be greatly missed by many.

I am sorry for your loss. My dad and I met Roy when I worked for RMC years ago and my dad was new at the time just like me. Roy was always funny and nice! I could tell he was the type of person I appreciated having a conversation with somebody especially if he had a joke to share. I'll never forget what I thought of as his catchphrase, "that's right" and I'll think of that when thinking of him. I'm glad I got to know Roy and will miss him a lot! He was one of my favorite people I met through RMC!
