Sally Bailey Obituary

Sally Bolling Todd Bailey died Saturday, June 17, 2006.

Born December 16, 1921, in Washington, D. C., she was the daughter of the late Sallie B. Todd and T. Hardy Todd, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George L. Bailey Jr., former President of Security, Mortgage and Investment Corporation; and a brother, Bartlett B. Todd.

She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Sally and David Morse of Kernersville, North Carolina and Sabra and Bill Breslin of Troutville, Virginia; and a son, George L. Bailey III of Memphis, Tennessee; four grandaughters and their spouses, Katherine and Chad Dunham, Rebecca and Keith Meckstroth, all of Columbus, Ohio, Carolyn Breslin of Silver Spring, Maryland and Alicia Breslin of Richmond, Virginia; a great-granddaughter, Paige Dunham; two brothers and their spouses, Thomas H. and May Todd, G. Carroll and Elissa Todd, of Memphis, Tennessee; a sister, Mrs. William H. Chisholm Sr., of Charlottesville, Virginia; a sister-in-law Mrs. Bartlett B. Todd of Hempstead, New York; a cousin, Eudora Bolling of Keswick, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was raised at "Battery Park" in Bethesda, Maryland and "Eldon Farm" in Cobham, Virginia. She graduated from St. Catherine's Episcopal School in Richmond,Virginia and attended Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Louisa, Virginia and the Jack Jouett Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a former member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, the Charlottesville Junior League, Farmington Country Club and Keswick Hunt Club.

Special thanks to the staff of Our Lady of the Valley in Roanoke, Virginia and Good Samaritan Hospice for being so wonderful during her illness.

Private graveside services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Grace Episcopal Church in Cismont, Virginia.

A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the chapel of Our Lady of Peace, 751 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825-A Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.

I was so sorry to hear of Sally Todd Bailey's death, and want to send my deepest sympathy to Meta Chisholm and the rest of the family. I hadn't seen Sally since I was a child, but I remember her.

We will miss Mrs. Bailey. I personally looked forward to each annual visit with her tax information. She was just such a joy to speak with and she was always interested in others. She spoke so lovingly of her family members and wanted to know about ours as well.
