Joan Elswit Schweitz died peacefully at home on Friday, August 3, 2018. She was originally from New York and was a graduate of Ohio University. She spent most of her adult life in Fairfax, Virginia, moving to Charlottesville in 2005. Joan had been a journalist, reporting for local newspapers. She also served as the restaurant critic for a chain of suburban newspapers where she lived. As a volunteer, she helped establish the Fairfax Friends of the Library organization. Joan continued to play tennis well into her 80's, travelled extensively, and was a lifelong learner. She loved reading and classical music. As Joan requested, a private memorial will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Jefferson Madison Regional Library Wish List or Buy a Book Program.
