Scott James Obituary

Robert "Jim" James Scott, 54, of Greenwood, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday February 11, 2015.He was born in Beirut, Lebanon on September 14, 1960 to Paul Odell Scott and Carolyn June Lentz Scott, and lived in and travelled to many countries with his parents where they were assigned while in the military (Ethiopia, Morocco, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France and again to Spain while serving in the USMC). Oh, the wonderful fun times they had on the beach in Beirut, and again on the beach at the Red Sea while in Asmara, Ethiopia, camping in the mountains of Morocco, visiting Rome, Verdun, France, Lisbon, Madrid, etc. In his younger days he was truly a world traveler.In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Teresa Lynn Houghton Scott, and by their children Cristina Elaine Foley and her husband David, and Robert James Scott, II, and by his grandchildren, who knew him as "Teh Teh": Taylor, Jordan, and David Jr. He is also survived by his siblings: Michael, Daniel, and Mary; along with many other cousins and extended family.He is preceded in death by his son Paul Michael Scott, and his grandparents William Bryce Scott, Bertha Grey Davis Scott, Robert Joseph Lentz, and Mary Belle Craven Lentz.Jim was an avid gardener, who spent many hours in the outdoors planting and nurturing every sort of flower and tree. He was a skilled craftsmen and often built and restored furniture. He was an inspiration to all that knew him. Most of all, he devoted himself to his family, whom he adored above all else.The family extends their sincere thanks to all the many nurses, doctors, and other staff members at UVA Hospital, the Emily Couric Cancer Center, and Hospice of the Piedmont for the care during his illness.A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday February 14, 2015 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church with the Pastor Bruce Goldsmith officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Hill and Wood Funeral Home on Friday February 13, 2015.In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Jim's name are suggested to the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center at Post Office Box 800334 Charlottesville, VA 22908, The Wildlife Center of Virginia at Wildlife Center of Virginia Post Office Box 1557 Waynesboro VA 22980-1414 or to Hospice of the Piedmont at 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville VA 22911, www.hopva.org.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandowod.com.
