Paul Douglas Shelton, 60, was called to his heavenly home at the University of VirginiaMedical Centeron Monday, June 6, 2016.Paul was born to the late Lewis Robert Shelton Sr. and Alice Johnson Shelton and resided in Kents Store, Va. his entire life. Hewas preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Shelton, Lewis "June" Robert Shelton, Jr., and Clarence "Leroy" Shelton; and one sister, Gertrude "Pearl" Bishop.He is survived by two brothers, James (Deloris) Shelton of Goochland, Va., and Roger (Brenda) Shelton; and one sister, Mattie Kenan, all of Kents Store, Va.Although Paul joined the Galilee Baptist Church in Kents Store, Va. at a young age, he decided to be baptized and rededicate himself to Christ in the summer of last year. Paul attended schools in Fluvanna and vocational school in Fishersville, Va., and was a skilled welder and ironworker. He also learned the family trade of carpentry from his father and older brothers. Paul worked at Associated Steel for many years while also honing his technical skills on various construction sites and odd jobs. He also built his own home with a tremendous amount of support and help from his family.Paul was an amazing husband and father. He often said that his greatest accomplishment in life was his family and enjoyed spending time with them. On his days off, Paul could be found at Bible study with his wife, enjoying the activities at the racetrack with his son or on his boat as he was an avid fisherman. He was known for being a hard worker, his kind spirit, and his willingness to help others in need. When his health no longer permitted him to do labor intensive jobs, Paul began working at Walmart and remained there for 15+ years. He enjoyed meeting new people and established a great relationship with his co-workers at various store locations.Paul's precious memories are left to be cherished by his beloved wife of 38 years, Lola J. Shelton; his daughters, Tywana Pryor of Chesterfield, Va., and Paula Shelton of Louisa, Va.; one son, Travis Shelton of Kents Store, Va.; one granddaughter, Ivoire Shelton; sister-in-law, Linda Gilliam of Charlottesville, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Paul Bishop of Louisa, Va., and Chester Jackson of N.Y., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Galilee Baptist Church, Kents Store, Va. Pastor Ruben Lewis, Jr. and Minister Susan Lewis will officiate. Interment will followat the church cemetery.D.D. Watson Mortician, Inc., Louisa, is in charge of the arrangements.
