Major Stephen Todd Chappell
April 6, 1963 - August 23, 2024
Major Stephen Todd Chappell "Todd/Steve", 61 of Stanardsville, Va. departed this life on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the University of Virginia Hospital surrounded by family, and friends. Born April 6, 1963, in Radford, Virginia, and was the son of the late, John Hanson Chappell, Sr and Sylvia Meador Hughes.
He is survived by his wife, Dinah/Doodah W. Williamson; daughters, Merrie, and Emily Chappell; stepmother, Mrs. John Chappell, "Dorothy"; stepfather, Phillip Hughes; brother, John Hanson Chappell, Jr.; sister, Laura Chappell Arnold (Baron); and his precious little niece, Maren; and nephew, Emmet; brother-in-law, Ted Haskins (Pam); sisters-in-law, Jeanette Meade, Darlene Meade (Calvin), Cheryl Evans (Pic), Susan Jones (Zonya), Temple Coates, (Kenneth); nephew, Jim; nieces, Logan, and Tylee); many any extended nephews, nieces; great, great, and great nieces and nephew; and his precious love, our dog Bella.
Steve was employed by CERT, and Training 911 as an EMT instructor and taught 2000 plus students, and numerous Paramedic students, and loved trading the Market. He was a 1985 graduate of James Madison University and a 1995 graduate of Averett University.
He was the Assistant Chief of Dale City Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years and a life member for 35 years. During this time Steve recruited 2000-plus members and received numerous awards. Steve was a Major in the Army Reserves for 28 years and received the General McArthur Award and many more. He was a member of Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department, Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue, Western Branch Fire and Rescue, Chesapeake, Va., and Harrisonburg Rescue.
A special thanks to University of Virginia Hospital TCV/Intensive Care Unit, Acute Care Unit, RN's, PT's, OT's, RT's, (Evelyn) Dialysis (especially Terry), Culpeper Hospital UVA, (Dr. Marty, John RN., and Lauren, RN,) and all the Doctor's, and staff for their amazing care for Steve. Special thanks to all who came to visit, and all the prayers. Chief Chris Hool DCVFD, (Nicole, daughter Maddie), Chief Dusty Clay, SVFD, and membership, Rev. Jeff Tucker, Jeanette Meade, Delores & Ace Lawson, Temple Coates, and family, Teresa Lamb, Terry Cockrell, Kelley Lamb, Tracey Bevington, Bob Brown, Belle Moffett, Ed Meyers, Dayton Haugh, Dr. Thomas Borsari, Robert Whitlock/Trey, Tina Hancock, Becky McGlothlin, Gracie Clifton, Darlene Rae, Linda Johnson, Joseph Kenney, (Andrea), Patty Brennan, Sheila and Ed, Michael Brennan (Amy), Ann Booth, Phillip Hughes, and of course all his loving family, and girls. Sure, hope I haven't left anyone out, just know I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all of your support.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, Va. with David H. Zimmerman officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Please come in uniform, following the service there will be a celebration of Life at 4 p.m. at Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, 1355 Hillendale Dr., Dale City, VA. 22193, at the Desanto Community Hall, Dress casual.
