Theresa Houchens Obituary

Loving Mother and Nana, Theresa Melton Houchens, 66, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022, in Richmond, Va., after a long battle with COPD and lung cancer. Theresa was surrounded by many loving family members and friends when she passed.

Theresa was born to Montie and Margaret Melton on June 22, 1956, in Alexandria, Va. Theresa spent most of her career working as a nurse and finished her career as a manager with Virginia Blood Services in Charlottesville. After retirement, she left her hometown of Charlottesville to move to Richmond, Va., to be closer to her children. She enjoyed crocheting and cross stitch and had a great love for UVA Basketball. Theresa especially enjoyed time with her four grandchildren.

Now that Theresa has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of Theresa’s physical life on Earth, it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her. Theresa joins her father, Montie O’Neal Melton, in Heaven.

Theresa is survived by her mother, Margaret Melton; children, Angela O’Connor and husband, Stephen, and Jordon Houchens and wife, Michaela; grandchildren, Rowan, Liam, Nora, and Lando; sisters, Jessica Melton and Monica Melton; nieces, Sarah Barnett, Lauren Sprouse, Ashley Shifflett, Erin Dean, and Victoria Musselman; nephews, Tyler Melton and Patrick Christian; many great-nieces and great-nephews. A very special thank you to Linda, David, Keely, Igmara, Randi, Katie, Marilyn, Christy, Lauren, LaTricia, Kelly, and all of the loving and devoted staff at Legacy Hospice of Richmond, Va.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Cherry Avenue Christian Church in Charlottesville, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CHA Foundation c/o Legacy Hospice, 500 Faulconer Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22903 (https://www.chafoundation.net/contribute-online).

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.â€ â€" John 14:1-3

Remember fondly spending my early childhood days with my best friend T.C.. and all the happy times we had at the Melton house and the many vacations that I spent with that family. T.C. was always full of fun and laughter and even though we grew apart a we grew older, she still has a place in my heart. RIP

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
