Theresa Metz Obituary

Theresa Golderos Metz passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born and raised on the north side of Richmond, Va. She is the daughter of the late Dr. Victor Rudesindo Golderos and Mrs. Hilda Hubbard Golderos. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1956 and attended Madison College with studies in Home Economics.

Mrs. Metz was married to John R. Metz, who met Theresa in their high school years when his family relocated to Richmond living blocks from his future bride. Theresa and John started dating when Theresa returned from Madison College and John was attending MCV School of Pharmacy. Upon marriage, the couple relocated to Charlottesville, VA to start their lives together in 1964. John and Theresa remained in Charlottesville and celebrated many happy years of marriage together. On June 13th of this year, they would have been married 60 years.

Theresa loved her husband, daughter, and family where she devoted her time. She was very creative and loved to sew, cook, refinish furniture, and garden. Theresa believed that the giving of helping hands was the best gift of all. She practiced this throughout her life with her friends, family, and neighbors. Theresa always had several projects going at any given time while thinking about the next one. Theresa volunteered at First Presbyterian Church which included Mother's Day out, mission trips, sewing circle, and many other activities in her 55-plus years of membership.

Mrs. Metz was preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law James "Sonny" T. Marshall, of Scottsville, Va, sister, Claudette G. Putze of Franklin, Va, and her brother Victor R. Golderos III of New Kent, Va. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Metz Marshall, her sister-in-law Betty K. Golderos, and Betty's son Rueben both of New Kent, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Claudette G. Putze's children; Alice Taylor of Richmond, VA, Robert Putze of Raleigh, NC, and Victor Putze of Richmond, VA.

Our family is thankful for the compassionate care of Legacy Hospice and the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living where she lived out her last years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville or a charity of your choice in remembrance of Mrs. Metz.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date for family and friends.

so sad to hear of Theresa's death. We started out together in class at Ginter Park Elementary school IN RICHMOND when we were five and continued together all through high school. I have many pleasant memories of our friendship and times together. In 2008 we located all our 32 original classmates and started meeting on a monthly basis for lunch with those in the area. Theresa and John came to the early lunches but were unable to come to Richmond in later years but our group continued to keep in touch by e-mail and phone over the years. There are only 13 of us left now and Theresa will be greatly missed. We were friends for 81 years.

Although a time of extreme sorrow for John and Jennifer, it's a time that pain, confusion and suffering by Theresa has ended and Theresa is restored to peace by our Lord as he holds her in his arms saying "Well done my good and faithful servant."....and God repeats the truth because Theresa Metz was indeed a good and faithful servant to the Lord, a wonderful partner to John, and the mother of all mothers to Jennifer. I served as John's professional partner at Martha Jefferson Hospital for many years. I saw time after time the heart and soul of Theresa as John Metz thrived because of Theresa's love and care which she also shared with every being who crossed her path. Our loss here is Heaven's gain. She has already begun loving and caring there just as she did here. Rest in peace, Theresa. Blessings to John and Jennifer for you WILL be reunited when your days are complete here on Earth and you join your soulmate and Mom in that glorious eternal home.
