Virginia J. Gibson, "Tootsie", 85, of Palmyra, Va., passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Dogwood Village of Orange County.
Born on August 28, 1936, in Charlottesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ella Mae Dudley Jones and Thomas Leslie Jones.
Virginia was a dedicated employee of the Charlottesville school system for many years working in the school cafeterias. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. She loved spending time with family, jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, anything chocolate, and a simple Hershey bar was always a favorite treat.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Thomas Gibson.
Survivors include her three sons, Thomas L. Gibson and wife, Virginia, Richard G. Gibson and wife, Cheryl, and Scott A. Gibson and wife, Kimberly, all of Palmyra, Va.; four granddaughters, Christina Rizzo and husband, Vince, Heather Gibson, and Sydney Gibson, all of Palmyra, Va., and Jessica Witzak and husband, Ryan, of Woodbridge, Va.; and one great-grandson, Toby Witzak. She is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth Wharton and one brother, Larry Jones and wife, Janice, of Charlottesville, Va.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Belmont Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Belmont Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Charlottesville.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Belmont Baptist Church.
