Virginia Ann (Wharam) Higgins passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.She was born on October 11, 1939, a daughter of the late William R. Wharam and the late Anne E. (Moses) Wharam.She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Winston Higgins of 56 years; a brother, Vernon Wharam; a sister, Shirley O. Wharam Davis; and a nephew, Steve E. Wharam Jr.Virginia leaves behind four children, Ina Diane Higgins Baird, husband, James Lewis Baird Jr. of Scottsville, David Neal Higgins, wife, Janice Higgins of Mississippi, Alan Higgins, spouse, Matthew Bassignani of Troy, and Lisa Justine Higgins Denby, husband, Shawn Joel Denby of Scottsville; three brothers, Kenneth H. Wharam of Flordia, Steve E. Wharam of Scottsville, and William R. Wharam Jr. of Earlysville. Virginia and Winston were blessed with seven grandchildren, Brian Baird, Brandon Baird, Dustin Denby, Melissa Denby Theurich, Jenny Higgins, Tiffany Terry, and Justin Saylor. They also had five great-grandchildren, Tyler Baird, Bryson Baird, Ashley Smith, Maris Denby, and Blake Denby. One lifetime best friend, Viola (Mickey) Layman of Stuarts Draft. She leaves behind one loyal and loving four legged little girl, Heidi.Virginia loved to sew, work on crossword puzzles, cook, and listen to bluegrass music. She was known for her many famous Christmas and Thanksgiving meals with enough food to feed a small army. She loved her kids, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren with all her heart. Her heart and door was always open for them and even when her own health was failing she still worried about how everyone else wasdoing. She worked and ultimately retired from Uniroyal in Scottsville after 43 years.A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 24, 2015 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
