Waverly H. Davis

1929 - 2005

Waverly H. Davis, 75, of Crozet, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Born Dec. 5, 1929, Waverly was a daughter of the late Christine Thomas Haney and Whitelaw Reid Haney of Charlottesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Downer Davis III and his parents, Harriet Williams Clarke Davis and Ernest Downer "Doc" Davis Jr., MD of Crozet. Waverly was also preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Airleen Johnson of Orange.

Waverly graduated from Charlottesville High School and moved to Crozet when she got married in l952. She has been well-known and loved by so many of the long-time residents of Crozet. Waverly is fondly described as a gentle, soft-spoken, good person who would do anything for others, before considering herself. Generous and kind, she will surely be missed.

Waverly is survived by her four children, Edward Davis and his wife, Alexandra, of Crozet; Dabney Davis and his wife, Donna, of Crozet; Reid Davis of Richmond and Sandra Davis Burton and her husband, David, of Afton. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Angela Davis Beale and her husband, Jason, of Afton, Joshua Davis and his wife, Abigail, of Charlottesville, Benjamin and Reid Davis of Crozet, and John and Margaret Burton of Afton. Waverly is also survived by her infant great-grandson, Caleb Beale of Afton, as well as by her sister and dear friend, Eleanor Brooks of Roanoke.

Special thanks and appreciation go to Genie Herr and Louise Cook for such long years of devoted friendship with Waverly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 188, Crozet, VA 22932, or the American Red Cross, 1105 Rose Hill Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22903, or any other charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at Crozet Baptist Church, with Dr. Roy S. Thomas III officiating, after which the family will receive friends at a coffee hosted by the ladies of the church.

Private interment will be at Rockgate Cemetery in Crozet earlier that morning.
