William Highlander Obituary

William Franklin "Frank" Highlander, 78, of Gordonsville, passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at the Hospice House in Charlottesville.

He lived in the community of Meltons, three miles southwest of Gordonsville. Frank was the son of the late Arthur Lee Highlander and Blanche Edwards Highlander of Culpeper.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 38 years, Althea Rock Highlander, of Gordonsville; his sister, Helen Herndon, of Culpeper; a nephew, Carl "Chippie" Herndon, of Forest Lakes; his beloved aunt, Mrs. Mildred Brown; his cousin, Darlene Brown; and a very special cousin who was like a brother to him, William "Billy" Brown , all residing in Culpeper.

His beloved family also includes, Nancy and Phyllis Knight; a dear friend, Yolande Landry; two grandchildren, Lisa Wilson and Neil Wilson and his wife, Leigh Ann; and one great-grandaughter, Meridith Wilson, all residing in Charlottesville.

Frank was an Army Veteran of World War II, and was a former member of the American Legion, in Culpeper. He was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and head usher. He was also a member of the Gordonsville Baptist Church for many years.

Frank retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation with 22 years of service. He especially enjoyed attending church, growing flowers, traveling, cooking and watching western movies. He will be missed but he will always be remembered with love and affection.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug., 30, 2005, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa. The Rev. James Wood will officiate.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at the funeral home.
