Frank Herczeg Obituary

FRANK E. HERCZEG, JR. AGE: 61 MORRIS TWP. Frank E. Herczeg, Jr., 61, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his home in Morris Township, NJ after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Barbara Herczeg. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Frank was the son of the late Margaret and Frank Herczeg, who brought him to the USA as a young boy. Frank graduated from the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ; and New York University. He spent most of his career in the containerized shipping industry with Sea-Land Service, Inc. in the Finance Department; attaining the position of Vice President and Controller. Frank started his career in public accounting becoming a Certified Public Accountant. In addition to Sea-Land, Frank also worked in executive management financial positions with CSX Corporation and Maersk, Inc. Just before retirement because of illness, he was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Maersk in Tokyo, Japan. Frank was a wonderful, caring and loyal husband, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed and loved life that has been taken from him much too soon. He will be greatly missed, by his family and everyone who knew him. Frank is survived by his sister Judith Szilagyi and her husband Dezso of Cranston, RI; and his two nephews, Steven Szilagyi and his wife Suzanne of Atlanta, GA, and Thomas Szilagyi and his wife Melissa of Taunton, MA. He is also survived by his four great-nephews Mark, Charlie, Jonathan, and Samuel; his aunt Edith Kmetkyo of Montreal, Canada; and his cherished dog Snowball. A funeral service for Frank will be held at The Unitarian Church, 4 Waldron Avenue, Summit, NJ on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 11:00am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frank can be made to the Presbyterian Church, who welcomed Frank and his family when they immigrated would be appreciated. Memorial contributions can be sent to Rev. Szabolcs Nagy, Presbyterian Church, 100 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Arrangements were under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison.

I am saddened to hear of Frank's passing. I worked for him in the Controller's Dept. of SeaLand for almost 15 years. We had our disagreements, but always worked things out and everyone benefitted from his counsel. I wish him "fair winds and calm seas" on his journey to heaven.
