John Condrick Obituary

John Patrick Condrick

AGE: 80 • Clifton

John Patrick Condrick, 80, of Clifton, on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Born in Morristown, he lived in Boonton most of his life before moving to Clifton 20 years ago.

John was a graduate of the Boonton Public Schools, and in 1956 he attended and graduated from the American Academy Institute of Funeral Service in New York City, and was subsequently licensed as a Practitioner of Mortuary Science in the State of New Jersey.

John started his funeral service career in 1957 at the Haeberle and Barth Funeral Home in Irvington and Union. John also was employed at Smith and Smith Funeral Directors in Newark and Springfield, and Young's Funeral Home in Millburn.

In 1960 John began his 53 year career at the Kamienski Funeral Homes. John was the Secretary Treasurer of the Kamienski Funeral Homes, Inc., and Manager of the Kamienski Funeral Home in Wallington. He was a member of the Passaic County Funeral Directors Association, New Jersey and National Funeral Directors Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War, and was a member of the Wallington American Legion, Post 0381. In 1995 John was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Wawel Savings Bank of Wallington and Garfield.

John was a member of the Holy Rosary R.C. Church Young Mens Club, Passaic, National A.A.RP., Pee Wee's Colonial Room, Wallington, and also a proud member of the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton. Being a history buff and always wanting to know where he or others came from, he, at the age of 19, while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, decided to travel to Ireland to meet the members of his family. He did, and that was the start of his travels, not only to Ireland, but to other places.

John and Janet (Tresca), his companion of 43 years, would travel to Ireland every year, and then extend the trip to either Monte Carlo, Spain, or London. One year they flew the Concord to London, they sailed aboard the 3 Queens, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary, and their last trip aboard the Queen Victoria. While not in Europe, their travels were to Las Vegas, San Francisco, and of course, Hawaii. John always told people that all you had to do was look at the albums Janet made after each trip and it was like reading a book or seeing a movie. John loved to eat!

One year he and Janet went to a different restaurant every Saturday, John enjoyed that and told everyone he knew about it. When he and Janet asked for a menu to save from some of the restaurants they went to, they were taken as food editors that rate places, and did they get good service! John got a kick out of that. John loved to talk, as all who knew him would agree to. His devotion to his 56 years as a Funeral Service Professional will never be denied. He absolutely loved his job, helping his clients, talking to them, and doing whatever he could to satisfy himself and them. He was a perfectionist at his job, there was just no other way. John was the devoted son of the late John J. "Jack" and Elizabeth (nee Burke) Condrick, loving brother of the late William J. Condrick, dear uncle of Kathleen "Kitty" Condrick, of Orlando, FL., cousin to Edward Quenault and his wife Ann, and Fred Quenault, and nephew of Aunt Nellie, and many cousins in Ireland.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Friday, 10:30 AM, from the Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, and 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church, Boonton. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery, Morris Township. Visiting Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9, at the Kamienski Funeral Home, 106 Locust Avenue, Wallington, and Thursday, 5-9 PM, at the Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, Boonton.
