John Grosskopf Obituary

JOHN G. GROSSKOPF AGE: 87 DENVER, CO After a long illness, John G. Grosskopf died Monday, August 16, 2010. He lived a life of honor and purpose. His devotion to his wife, Helen, gave years of joy to both of them. His love for his son Bruno, his wife Susan and John's grandsons Alexander R, and Bruno D. gave John a heart-full of pride and gladness. John was born Jan 1, 1923 and grew up in Jersey City, NJ, the son of George and Viola Grosskopf. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific taking part in two campaigns Cape Gloucester, New Britain and Okinawa. John was a police officer for 21 years. For one year he served the Jersey City Police Dept. and then transferred to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Dept. for the remainder of his police career. After retirement John worked as a Probation Investigator for the Probation Dept of Morris County, NJ. John and Helen started their adventure in Colorado in Dec. 1984 with the purchase of the Blue Bird Motel in Sterling. They moved to Denver in 1989 and have enjoyed the many pleasures of living in this city and state. John was a life member of the VFW, Post #1 and in these later years, The Marine Corps League, Windsor Gardens chapter. A memorial service will be held at Ft. Logan Cemetery Friday, Sept 3, 2010 at 12:15 pm, Shelter "C".
