AGE: 72 • Paramus
Melvyn B. Halpern, 72, of Paramus on July 13, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Marcy (nee Selikoff). Devoted father of Steven Halpern (Barrie) and Amy Fanning (Michael). Loving grandfather of Emily, Ryan, Adam, Kevin & Kyle.
Melvyn served in the US Army Reserve. He was the previous owner of Ace Hardware in Northvale, NJ prior to retiring. He was active in the Paramus Men's Softball League as well as being a coach. Melvyn was a very devoted grandfather who was always involved in all of his grandhildren's activities. Funeral Service 11:30 AM Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ.

So sorry to hear of Mel's passing. He was good friends with my father for so many years, although I have not seen him in just as many. My condolences to his family. I always liked him. Funny, charismatic, and just an all-around good guy. RIP

I haven't seen Mel since his Ace Hardware store closed in Northvale. Tonight I was saddened when I heard about his passing. He was a great guy an will be greatly missed, Mel rest in peace.

Mel was a part of our family and will be missed more than mere words can say. We will treasure our times, our travels and the love we received from him for the rest of our lives. There is a big hole in our lives where he stood....but our hearts are filled with the love we shared with him. Rest in Peace, "Big Guy", till we meet again.

What can I write to sooth the sadness that overwhelms the Halpern family? I can tell you all that you are in my thoughts & prayers. I can say that Mel has joined his lifemate, Marcy, in a better place. But the sad truth is that his warmth is just a memory now. In time, the hurt will melt into fond memories. Just know you are not alone, you have many friends & family that will help on this journey. I am honored to have met a fine man such as Mel Halpern.
