Michael Alpern Obituary
Stanhope - Michael Alpern, 73, of Stanhope, NJ, passed away at home on February 10 after a long fight with cancer. His final hours were spent surrounded by loved ones. Mike was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was a graduate of Morristown Prep School and Lafayette College. He had a long work history including time spent teaching as well as long stints at his parents' business, Alpern's Yard Goods and Decorating Supplies, as well as A&R Interiors and Eastern Infantswear. His family and those who knew him will miss his love of the New York Giants, his passion for terrible puns, his eccentric musical tastes, and his lifelong fascination with the outdoors and photography. He is survived by his wife Karen Verrinder, his children Sam Alpern and his wife Doris, David Alpern and his wife Carla, Dawn Verrinder and her husband Martin, and Dwayne Verrinder, as well as his grandchildren Dylan, Rebecca, Abigail, Emma, Alex, and Logan. He is also survived by his sister Jo-Martha Glushko and her husband, William Velardocchia. A private memorial service will be held in April. The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

I am belatedly hearing of Michael's passing. Karen, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I knew Mike since around 1975 and was always touched by his good nature and sense of humor...along with his great taste in music (bluegrass primarily!). Sincerest condolences.

Frank and Beatrice Taylor send their condolences. Michael and his Father, Harry were dear friends who helped us tremendously when we emigrated to the US in 1972. We will miss you and our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
