Michael Basenese Obituary
AGE: 88 • Netcong
Michael P. Basenese, Sr., recently of Netcong, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. He was 88.
Born in Netcong, Michael proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the Army during the Korean war. He lived most of his life in Netcong prior to spending 16 years in Naples, FL. Michael was employed by the Jefferson Twp. Board of Education as an automobile shop teacher at the high school. He was a parishioner of St. Michael's Church in Netcong and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the B.P.O. Elks of Mt. Arlington.
Michael is survived by his son, Michael Basenese, Jr. and his wife, Colleen; his daughters, Jeannie Basenese and Sandi Basenese; his brothers, Anthony and Patsy; his grandchildren, Dana Collins, Gina Seifert and her husband, Josh, Sara Berstler and Michael Berstler and his great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Isabelle and Colin Seifert. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan and his grandson, Stephen Berstler.
Mike loved to work on cars, trucks, motorcycles, basically anything on wheels. Whether he was at his service station on the old Netcong Circle or in his garage at home on Koclas Drive, he loved to tinker. Family and friends would stop to see if Mike could help them with their vehicles which he would always oblige, but it would cost that person an ear full on local news, politics or just the weather.
The family will receive visitors on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Morgan Funeral Home in Netcong. The cremation was private.
