Robert Aaronson Obituary

Robert "Bob" M. Aaronson

AGE: 77 • Rockaway Twp.

Rockaway Twp: Robert "Bob" M. Aaronson, 77, passed away on June 14, 2013 after a one-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Marion Aaronson, his three children, Jennifer Salberg, Pamela Aaronson, and Adam Aaronson, and his four grandchildren, Katie and Rachel Caggianno, and Alex and Lilly Salberg. He was born on October 19, 1935 in the Bronx, NY to Alexander and Sylvia Aaronson.

He attended Dewitt Clinton High School, but completed high school while in the Navy as a sonar operator during the Korean War. Upon returning to New York he attended New York University and started to develop his love of music with his love of broadcasting.

During the fall of 1957 he met Marion Kavee and they were wed in March of 1958. They left New York to pursue Bob's career in radio, which landed them in Pennsylvania where Jennifer was born. With a new family and new responsibilities, Bob left the radio business to pursue a more lucrative profession. During this time they moved to Chicago where Pamela was born. In the mid-60s he and Marion moved to Plainfield, NJ, where their son, Adam, was born.

In 1971 he and Marion moved the family to Parsippany, NJ where Bob reignited his radio career. He worked at WSUS in Sussex County, WRNJ in Hackettstown, WCTC in New Brunswick, read news on ABC, did fill in work on WOR. He finally received his dream job at WOR with his own talk show.

However, in September of 1995, only a month after the passing of his beloved younger brother, Steve, Bob had a tragic bicycle accident. After an extended coma, Bob slowly regained consciousness and began the difficult process of rehabilitation. This was the dawn of a new Bob that had many challenges in front of him, but many joys as well.

He became an advocate for traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors, lobbied for bike helmet safety, read stories to children at Little Learners Institute, and for a short time even got back on the air at WRNJ in Hackettstown. He also loved to tell bad jokes and spend time with his family.

In November of 2012 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He spent the last few months of his life learning more bad jokes and spending time with friends and family.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 1 - 2:00 pm on Wednesday June 19, 2013 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Wharton, NJ 07885 with a memorial service to follow at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob's memory to the Lustgarten Foundation www.lustgarten.org.

Marion,
May happy memories and love of family and friends support you during this very sad time. RIP Bob.

Marion, you probably won't remember me, but your account of Bob's ordeal, determination, and recovery helped me deal with my 16-year old son's accident and TBI. I met Bob, and the meeting reinforced the help you gave me. Another parallel: My brother died of pancreatic cancer soon after diagnosis, as well. Peace and strength. Michael Terreri
