Wayne Marks

Long Valley - Wayne Mason Marks, 89, of Long Valley, NJ passed away Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2017. He had been a resident of his beloved Long Valley for over 40 years.

Wayne was born in Chicago, IL on May 7, 1928. He was raised in Lawrenceburg, where he attended Lawrenceburg High School, and Wabash, Indiana. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corp and USAF, Training Command, San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Business Management in 1953. He was also a graduate of the Westinghouse Graduate Student program in Electrical Engineering and the Westinghouse Manufacturing Program. He retired after 35 years of service with Westinghouse Electrical Corporation, Elevator Company, where he was Manager of Tax Accounting, receiving many accolades. After retirement, Wayne worked for two years as a Systems Consultant for Schindler Elevator Company. Wayne lived in San Antonio, TX, Pittsburgh, PA, Lima, OH, Somerset, NJ, and finally Long Valley, NJ. Wayne was a member of Somerset Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee and elder. He was also a member of the BPO Elks #54 of Lima, OH, American Legion Post 342 of Chester, NJ, Garden State Postcard Club, American Philatelic Society, Hackettstown Coin Club, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) New Jersey Society, Washington Township Historical Society serving as a Trustee and Recording Secretary, and Photographer, Hackettstown Historical Society, Washington Township Veterans Association as Vice Commander, and served on the Washington Township Senior Citizen Advisory Council as Chairperson. He was nominated for Senior Citizen of the Year in 1997 by St. Luke's Church. Wayne was known far and wide as an avid collector of military memorabilia, as well as a dealer in antiques, collectibles, stamps, and postcards. He shared his passion as a public speaker and historian, giving presentations on postcards, paper ephemera, history, and fluorescent mineral rocks to area schools, historical societies of Washington Township, Hackettstown, Mt. Olive, and Chester, as well as the Lion's Club. Wayne is survived by his loving daughter Sherrie L. Marks, The Villages, FL and a son Barry W. Marks, San Francisco, CA, sister-in-law Louise Marks, Tampa, FL, nephew Greg Marks (Sally), Leesburg, FL and children. Paula (Len) Hollihan, Deerfield Beach, FL and children, niece Cheryl Traines (Mark), Buckeye, AZ, and children, Daniel Paul (Maita) Marks, Honolulu, HI. He was predeceased by his parents Paul H. Marks, and Hildreth Mason Marks, and his brother Lt. Col. Paul H. Marks, Jr.

Wayne will be missed most by his daughter Sherrie, who for her, was her everything and the best Father in the world.

Visitation will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4-6 pm with services beginning at 6 pm.

Burial will be held on Friday, December 8, 2016 at 10 am at the German Valley Cemetery, 80 Coleman Road, Long Valley, NJ
