Daniel Joseph Klein

Daniel Joseph Klein, age 80, passed away in Spokane. Dan was born in a stone house in Hettinger County, ND to Peter and Barbara. He was deeply devoted to his family, friends, the Catholic Church, and his love of classic cars. Dan grew up with his identical twin, David, and was later joined by three additional brothers, Francis, Lee, and Gene. Dan and Dave served in the U.S. Army as helicopter mechanics stationed in Germany from 1963 to 1965. After the military, Dan and Dave moved to South Seattle and started working at Boeing. Dan owned and operated an Exxon Station for several years, where he met Cindy. They later built a home in Maple Valley and welcomed their first son Jeffrey in 1983, followed by William in 1985. Dan worked as an appliance repair technician in Seattle, Maple Valley, and Ellensburg. Dan retired in 2008 after 15 years at Shaw's Furniture and Appliance. In 1992, the family moved to Ellensburg. Dan served as a volunteer firefighter in Kittitas County Fire District 1 from 1993 to 2008. In 2017, Dan and Cindy moved from Ellensburg to Spokane to be closer to their grandchildren.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Barbara, and wife, Cindy. Dan is survived by sons Jeffrey (Dena) grandchildren (Luna and Scott) and William; brothers Dave (Ida), Francis (Sandy), Lee, and Gene (Andi); Dan's grandchildren were a source of immense joy, and he took great pride in watching them grow. An avid enthusiast of classic cars, Dan found solace and passion in his 1968 Chevy Caprice. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, 3 August 2024, at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Ellensburg, WA. He will be laid to rest with Cindy. Following the graveside service, a reception will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided during the reception. The family invites friends, relatives, and those who know Dan's warm spirit to join them in celebrating his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to a charity close to your heart in memory of Daniel J. Klein.
