Jack McLeod Obituary

Jack A. McLeod

August 3, 1942-November 22, 2024

Jack McLeod, 82, died peacefully in his home in Ellensburg following a massive heart attack. He was born in Lewiston ID to John and Cecilia McLeod. He had two brothers and two sisters and was raised in the Lewiston-Clarkston area.

Following 3 years in the army in which he served in Vietnam, he worked for the state of Idaho handling their radio work. In the early 1970s he moved to Ellensburg and ran a two-way radio business until his retirement. Jack loved two-way radios, remote mountain top work, and building phone patches, small wind generators and small propane engines to power his remote sites.

In the late 1970s he met Elizabeth Ann Kelly, and they were married on January 9, 1981 in Spokane WA. Together they had four children, Tiffany McLeod, Tabitha (Michael) Willard, and Travis McLeod all of Ellensburg and Tamara Hoffman of Lakewood, WA. Jack and Ann have six grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his sisters Judy Weyer and Colleen Beavers, and his brother Doug McLeod. He is survived by his brother Donald McLeod of Wenatchee, WA, as well as his wife of 43 years Ann, his children and grandchildren. Also by several cousins and nephews.

He will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St. in Spokane WA, on Thursday, December 12, at 1 p.m. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 14, at 4p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 1201 North B Street, Ellensburg, WA., with a reception after the service.

We first met Jack when we needed a radio phone for our cabin. It didn't take long to appreciate both his kindness and his talent. Using a radio phone can be a bit tricky, and it was fascinating to see how he resolved issues to keep the show going. Although our contact was limited, I will miss leaving a friendly "How's it going?" note or memo with our quarterly payments. Our condolences go out to everyone who knew him well.

To Jack's family,
We remember Jack well. He set up the very sophisticated radio and telephone patch system for our construction business. The mobil phone part of the system was way ahead of its time. While attending a big equipment show in Chicago (1984) I spoke with the people manning the Motorola booth and told them of our great phone system, they were totally impressed and told me they were working on something similar that would be on the market in a couple of years, we'd had our mobil phones in use for at least 2 years at that time.
In our eyes Jack was a true genius who took excellent care of all his clients and was a very nice guy to deal with.
Sharon and I are sorry for your loss.
