LeOttie Mitchell Obituary

LeOttie Mitchell
LeOttie Stella (Campbell) Mitchell passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2022, ending her twenty-year journey with Alzheimer's.
LeOttie was born in Bliss, Nebraska on February 9, 1932, the 3rd child of Glenn and Adelaide Campbell. Her family moved from Nebraska to live in Ellensburg when LeOttie was in 2nd grade. She attended Ellensburg Schools and graduated from EHS in 1949. She worked at Vail's Grocery during those years.
In her sophomore year of high school, a young man with a plan crashed into her line at the roller rink and used the move to arrange their first date. The two were, save for Howard's service in the Korean War, inseparable from then on. They were married on June 11,1950.
The couple moved to the Mitchell family homestead and spent the next 50 years building those modest beginnings into a successful dairy operation. In the early years LeOttie also worked as a bookkeeper at Model Cleaners.
LeOttie was an active member of the Dairy Wives for many years. She also supported her children in many baking, sewing and dairy 4H projects. She was an excellent seamstress, expert barber and loved crafting, especially making swags for friends and family during the holidays and creating greasewood arrangements. She liked family snowmobile trips and sunning herself on dry land while watching others waterski.
LeOttie eagerly attended college for the first time in the early 1980's, taking accounting classes at CWU to add to her bookkeeping skills for the dairy.
LeOttie was a hard-working member of the Kittitas County Fair board from 1984-1997 serving as President during her tenure.
After they sold the dairy cows, LeOttie and Howard started a beef and hay growing operation with their son and daughter-in-law.
LeOttie was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Dale, Bud, Ruth and LaReta.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Howard, her daughters, Lori (Scott) Busby, Kathy (Carl) Harrell and son Steve (Karie) Mitchell, grandchildren Matt, Megan, Billy, Halee, Jeremy, Chris, eight great grandchildren, her six sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
There are no plans for services at this time.
Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Fair or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.brooksidefuneral.com.
