Norman Nicko Obituary
CHURCH POINT - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point at 12:30 pm, July 26, 2014, for Norman "Tony" Nicko, 74, who passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 05:43 PM at his residence.
Msgr. Jefferson Deblanc, Pastor of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass.
Norman, a resident of St. Landry Parish was the son of the late Anthony Nicko and the former Agnes Fruge.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia Daigle Nicko of Sunset, LA; one daughter, Donna Nicko of Breaux Bridge, LA; two sons, Anthony "Jared" Nicko and fiancee Angel Leigh Landry of Sunset, LA and Travis John Nicko and wife Christy of Lafayette, LA; two grandchildren, Tony Nicko of Lafayette, LA and Gemma Leigh Nicko of Sunset, LA; and one brother, Gene C. Nicko of Lafayette, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Angela Nicko and one brother, Ronald Nicko.
Norman was retired from the City of Opelousas Fire Department as Assistant Chief after 30+ years of service. Following his retirement, he began working for the St. Landry Sheriff's Office in different areas. He was passionate about his animals and work but his family was his greatest passion.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Guidry Funeral Home of Church on, Friday, July 25, 2014 from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home Friday evening at 7:00 pm.

I'll always remember Norman,and am saddened by his passing. Aside from family gatherings, I recall when I was a teenager in Basile & he'd walk across the street from Agnes' and just be "Norman"...I smile when I think of him. Can't have better memories than that! Will miss you my friend.

As the Daily World staff photographer I had many opportunities to work structure fires with Norman when he was with the Opelousas Fire Department. He always went out of his way to assist me in any way that he could and I always considered him a good friend. May he rest in peace.
