Peter Cannatella Obituary
MELVILLE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Peter Anthony Cannatella at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013, in the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Melville, La. Reverend Mark Ledoux will celebrate the Mass along with con-celebrants, Reverend Conley Bertrand and Reverend James Nguyen. Rite of Committal will be held in the St. John Catholic Church Cemetery in Melville, La.
Mr. Cannatella, age 85, a resident of Melville, La., died on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at his residence.
Peter was a member of Cursillo #49, Come Lord Jesus and was a Eucharistic Minister. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Walterine Duplechain Cannatella, of Melville, La.; his sons, Charles Cannatella and wife, Denise, of Melville, La.; Brian Cannatella and wife, Joann, of Melville, La.; Grant Cannatella and wife, Pam, of Melville, La.; Quentin Cannatella of Richmond, VA; his daughters, Dr. Marla Cannatella Silverberg and husband, Dr. Joel Silverberg, of Baton Rouge, La.; Anna Maria Cannatella Rodriguez and husband, Erin Rodriguez, of Apalachicola, FL; his brother, Frank Cannatella and wife, Sadie, of Port Barre, La. and his sister, Martha Bart and husband, Tom, of Marble Falls, TX. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ashlee Cannatella, Vincent Cannatella and wife, Krysten; Mary Silberberg, Ben Silverberg, Mathilda Silverberg, Simon Silverberg, Christian Cannatella, Maddie Cannatella, Elena Rodriguez and Kai Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mathilda Cannatella; his brothers, Joe Cannatella, Carlo Cannatella and his sisters, Katie Vanchiere, Elizabeth Onnebane, Jennie Cannatella, Rosie Cannatella and Fena Savage.
Visiting will begin at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Melville on Friday, December 20, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Hands Together" which helps people in Haiti's poorest areas. (www.handstogether.org)

Pete was such a great person. He and Walterine opened their house to us in October. Class, class person. What everyone should be like. I will remember Pete everyday moving forward. A grocery man and proud of it! Rest in peace Pete!

Truly a "man after God's own heart," I will miss my "uncle" Pete. He was a great model as a Christian, father and husband. I remember many happy visits with the family during summer as a child, and now am trying to raise my own children in several ways according to the way Pete did. He served his Lord Jesus beautifully. Our deepest sympathies are with the family in their great loss--and heaven's gain.
