Maura McNiel Obituary

McNIEL, Maura Maura McNiel, a pioneer in the fight for women's rights, passed away peacefully at home in Los Altos, California on July 18. She was 99. A long time Dallas resident, Maura was a passionate feminist who changed the future of women's rights in Texas and in America, driven by the desire to improve the lives of others. She was a loving mother and grandmother, an inspirational friend, and a lover of jazz, art, family travels, water slides and sunsets. She had a sharp mind, a seemingly indefatigable zest for life, and a limitless supply of grace and elegance. She was a classic beauty inside and out. Maura is survived by son Richard Green, daughter Bridget McNiel, granddaughter Catalina Andrea McNiel, brother John Anderson (Velia), sister Gretchen Miller, niece Holly Denis and nephew David LeSage (Judy Coover). She is pre-deceased by daughters Andrea and Amy and brother Harley Anderson. To carry on her legacy please consider donations to the Texas Women's Foundation, Maura McNiel Endowment, supporting the Maura Awards honoring women helping women.
