Doris E. Herbert passed away peacefully March 5, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in Bloomfield, NJ, she was the daughter of George and Amelia Edgar. Her father was a pilot in the Royal Air Force of Scotland before moving to the US after WWI.
Doris moved with her parents to Darien as a young girl next door to her future husband, Henry F. Herbert. She graduated from Darien High School and attended the University of Connecticut. She later worked for a patent attorney in Manhattan.
Doris and Henry were married in 1952 at St. John's Church followed by a reception at the DCA Meadowlands. Despite being an only child, Doris went on to raise five children. She was a volunteer in the Darien schools, Brownie leader, and a volunteer with Darien Answers. Doris and Henry were longtime members of Shorehaven Golf Club and Windstar on Naples Bay in Naples, FL.
Doris is survived by her daughters Janet Glazer (Charles) of Greenwich, Lauren Banerjee (Ravi), Bebe Fisher (John), and Carol Herbert all of Darien, and her son Frazer Herbert (Victoria) of Rowayton. Doris is also survived by her twelve grandchildren - Lindsay, Charlie, Alex, Ravi Jr, Lizzie, Scott, Annie, Carolyn, Jack, Andrew, Cate, and James as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Noroton Fire Department where four generations of Doris' family have served.
