Ellen Haebler Skove, (ne,) Ellen Christine Haebler, was born January 6, 1928, and died, August 9, 2022, aged 94.
Ellen was born in the Bronx, NY to parents William T. Haebler and Ethel Kurth Haebler. Raised in Pelham, NY and Milwaukee, WI, she was the eldest of three sisters (Pauline "Polly" Haebler VanDyke and Ann Haebler Frantz). Ellen attended Milwaukee Downer Seminary and Miss Halls School, then went on to Wheelock College where she majored in early childhood education.
She married the love of her life Philip Skove of Cleveland, Ohio in 1950 after meeting in Boston where he attended MIT. They resided for over 50 years in Darien, CT as well as in Key Largo, Florida. In 2013 she moved to the RiverMead Lifecare Community in Peterborough, NH.
Ellen enjoyed needlework, was a garden enthusiast, golfer, tennis player and overall athlete, avid bridge player, devoted wife and mother, and supporter of many charities over the years. Ellen loved to host and attend parties and was always game to try new things. A lover of dance, theater, music, costumes and dress up, she passed along these interests to her daughters and grandchildren. Ellen always had a place in her heart for dogs and had several over the years. She also spent time watching and enjoying shore birds where she lived in CT and FL.
She is survived by her daughters, Samantha Skove, Catherine Skove, and Ellynne Skove, and her grandchildren, Ellery Ames and Mason Ames, EmmaGrace Skove-Epes, and Jackson Skove Menoher. Ellen is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Billie Rose Ames and Archie Leon Ames.
Celebrations of Life will be held in Darien, CT and Key Largo, FL.
