John Charles "Jack" Keating
John Charles "Jack" Keating, 83, died Friday at his home in Darien, CT.
Mr. Keating was born in New York City on Oct. 10, 1929, the son of Mary McCormick Keating and Edward F. Keating. A graduate of Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, N.Y., he also attended Boston College, graduating in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Keating began his career as a salesman at Darling Valve in Williamsport, PA. Moving to Connecticut in 1968, he became a successful mortgage broker at Huntoon Paige & Co, a firm later bought by Merrill Lynch. Mr. Keating retired from the firm in 1986 but worked on several other financial ventures in the years that followed.
Throughout his life, Mr. Keating was an active sportsman. He derived great joy fishing, playing tennis, paddle tennis and especially golf with his wife, children and many friends. He also spent as much time as possible relaxing on his favorite beaches.
Mr. Keating and his wife, Carole, were longtime members of Woodway Country Club and Middlesex Swim Club and parishioners at St. Thomas More Church in Darien.
Mr. Keating is survived by his wife, Carole Cullen Keating of Darien; his sisters, Mary "Jill" Carmody of Katonah, N.Y., and Joan Keating of Scarsdale, N.Y.; his children, Claire K. Strupp (Joe) of Maplewood, N.J.; Jill K. Brannigan (Peter) of Darien; John C. Keating, Jr. (Amy) of Darien; Alison K. Schuck (Russell) of Hingham, MA.; and William C. Keating (Sarah) of Darien; and 14 grandchildren; Cloey and Cole Strupp; Aidan, Owen, Patrick and Edward Brannigan; Tess and John Charles Keating III; Trevor, Caroline and Sydney Schuck; and Mac, Willy and Annie Keating.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Darien, CT. Visitation will be 5 pm. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Darien EMS Post 53. P.O. Box 2066 Darien, CT 06820.
