Donald Wight Obituary

Wight, Donald C.

Donald Clinton Wight, 103, of Urbana, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday afternoon, September 6, 2025. He was born in Bartley, Nebraska on July 21, 1922, the son of the late Melvin Earl and Mary Wray (Baker) Wight. Don was a 1939 graduate of Bartley High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and served as a corporal in the 59th Coast Artillery Regiment from 1940-1946. During his service, he was deployed to Corregidor, Philippines and was a POW in the Philippines and Japan from 1942-1945. Following his military service and return to the United States, Don earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1951. He then was employed by Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as an Aerospace Engineer, retiring in 1979. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wives, Nellie Charlene (Greenlee) Wight in 1964 and Audrey Lorena (Adkins) Wight in 2017; brothers, Melvin William Wight and Dale Dean (Betty) Wight; and step-son, Leean James Adkins. He is survived by his children, William (Rosemary) Wight, Mary Helen Wight, Donald (Emily) Wight, and Roderick Wight; step-children, Leeona (Richard) Wiseman and Deborah (Donnie) Burks; grandchildren, Melinda (Doug) Monteith, Abby Wight (Jonathan Schouwstra) and Benjamin (Brenna) Wight; and great grandchildren, Ashley Monteith Clark, Kelsey Monteith and Mercy Jo Wight Schouwstra. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2025 at Rose Hill Burial Park. The LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME is serving the family.
