News Death Notice

BERTRAMS, Dr. Carl H. 84, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2009. His life began on December 7, 1924 in Dusseldorf, Germany. At the age of 3, his family moved to Dayton where he spent his childhood and graduated from the University of Dayton. He attended Dental School at Marquette University where he met and married his devoted and beloved wife, Mary Ellen. They returned to Dayton to raise five sons that he referred to as his "Jewels". His family and his faith were guiding lights in his life. He was a kind and generous man who had a passion for tennis and cars and whatever sports his children or grandchildren were playing. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Alter High School Soccer for almost 40 years and a longtime member of Virginia Hollinger Tennis Club. Professionally, he was a lifetime member of the Dayton, the Ohio and the American Dental Association & President of the Childrens Dental Society. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Aloys & Margaret, and his brother, (Frank & wife Ginny). He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen; his 5 sons (Carl Jr.& wife Debi, Tom & wife Teri, John & wife Tracy, Jim & wife Mary Ann, Paul & wife Lynne); his 16 grandchildren (Brittany, Jourdan, Lexie, Katie Mabarak & husband Stephen, Dan, Tessie, Tara, Tony, Nick, Kyle, Andrea, Lauren, Matthew, Jonathan, Alex & Derek); his great-grandson Moses; his sister (Chris & husband Harry); numerous nieces & nephews and his loyal friend since kindergarten, Joe Haacke. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30pm at Church of the Incarnation, 7415 Far Hills Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent Hotel.
