I had just spoke to the office a few days before this happened, and I thank him for everything he did for me. May God rest his sole........and bless his family....

Charlie was one of my favorite Residents to work with. His intellect was incredible and his wit was sharp. When he graduated from the UW Neurosurgery Program I knew the world
would be a better place with him in it. God Bless you Charlie.

I was referred to Dr. Kuntz 11 years ago when I had trouble holding onto items at work. He was excellent at making sure you understood all the risks involved with the surgery. I loved his bedside manner, and he made sure I would be able to get back to work and taking care of my sick husband. He told me I would need a second surgery within 5-6 years later. Exactly 6 years later he had to perform a second one. Did such a great job, when I get my epidural, the doctors all exclaim how awesome my fusion is. I just saw him in December and we discussed another surgery. I found out about his passing in a letter from Mayfield. I was devastated. He was a great man, doctor and my friend for a little over 11 years. He contacted me after my husband passed offering his condolences. I pray his family finds solace from the many notes written here. He will be missed. He is missed. God has called home one of the best.

Even though I did not personally know Dr. Kuntz, I somehow feel a connection. My son attended St. Xavier High School, and is now a Sophomore at the College of Holy Cross. He has just declared Chemistry as his major with aspirations of becoming a doctor. When I read of his wonderful life here on earth and his humble, kind personality, with such will to help other, I know that he would have been a person by son would have liked the opportunity to know. May he rest in the hands of our Lord and many prayers for family and friends. Making a difference, that he did!

Although a kind person may depart us, his spirit will continue to inspire. Although a scholarly doctor may leave us, his words and deeds grow with time. RIP Charlie.

Charlie was the Chair-elect of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Spine Section. His passing is a great loss for this national organization. He served ably as an officer of our board for many years. His many friends at the AANS/CNS Spine Section have created and donated to the Charles Kuntz Fund of the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) in his honor. He had so many friends in organized neurosurgery who remember his kindness and mentorship. We want his children to know what a tremendous impact he had on his specialty and his colleagues. He was truly special, and our board of directors attended his funeral Saturday. Charlie will be honored with the Kuntz Memorial Session at our annual meeting going forward.

My deepest sympathy to the Kuntz family. You are in my prayers. Charlie and I were classmates at Holy Cross. I first met Charlie on a service trip to Appalachia, and we did research together our senior year. In our time working in the lab, attending classes and socializing, I came to know a young man with a concern and thoughtfulness for others. One could sense a passion in him that he would make this world a better place. I pray God hold Charlie close, yet thank God for blessing us all by bringing this wonderful person and friend into our lives.

When my husband lost the feeling in his hands and feet and took several falls Dr Kuntz came to the rescue. It took 3 surgeries and a lot of hard work from both Dr Kuntz and Jeff to get him feeling better. When one of the screws in his neck came loose Dr Kuntz gave us the news in a very kind and compassionate manner. Then we all laughed together that my husband had a "screw loose". We exchanged stories about his kids and ours too. We will never forget Dr Charles Kuntz for his skill, compassion, dedication and caring. RIP and God Bless to the family!

Although I did not personally know Dr. Kuntz, I have been a patient of Mayfield for a very long time. Dr. Kuntz performed a very successful 6-hour surgery on our son-in-law, Bill Schwab in 2005. I know he will be greatly missed not only by his family, but his colleagues at Mayfield and his many patients. I am very sorry for this loss. Sincerely, Doreen Ludwig

He was "Charlie" to me and a good friend at Holy Cross. Though we lost touch a couple of years after graduation as we each moved on to post-grad and families of our own, I will forever remember him and am very sad that we did not cross paths once more before he left this life. I wish to express heartfelt condolences to his family and pray that your memories will always keep his presence alive.

Charlie was one of my best friends having met him during our time at College of the Holy Cross. We remained good friends, spoke often, and even had a chance to get together from time to time. We often reminisced about Hyannis, MA where we spent the summer before he left for medical school. He was a unique combination of intelligence, humor, compassion and kindness. When we spoke he never talked about his work. I could only imagine the skill, focus and commitment it required. Now having had the chance to read the comments from his patients, I realize he harnessed all of his great qualities into helping people in a way that profoundly impacted their lives. That is truly special.
